Button doesn’t really see the point of the Silverstone tests
Jenson Button did not seem very enthusiastic about the tests scheduled at Silverstone in two weeks. The British driver believes that the interest in these tests is non-existent.
Formula 1 teams will head to Silverstone between July 17 and 19 for the young driver tests. Following the issues encountered on the same circuit a week ago, the FIA has authorized regular drivers to run for one day in order to maximize the feedback that Pirelli could gather from this session.
If this decision has been welcomed by many drivers, it does not seem to be the case for Jenson Button, who does not plan to take part in these tests. « If it’s just to run with one type of tire, then it’s not testing, it’s just running. So I don’t think I would participate, I’ve already driven enough at Silverstone. It’s important for us to test. We do so many things in the simulator nowadays, we need to drive the car to ensure correlation. I would have nothing against these tests if we could test… or if we could test the tires. I would really like to do that. But driving with one type of tire all day, there’s no point. »
The FIA would only have allowed the main drivers to run on one of the three days, but at the moment, the exact schedule of these tests and which day will be allocated to the main drivers are not known. Yesterday, Jean-Eric Vergne told us that he was indeed scheduled to run for half a day but did not yet know which one. The French driver thinks it will mainly depend on the always uncertain weather in Great Britain.
