Eric Boullier optimistic for the rest of the season
Eric Boullier was a happy man after the German Grand Prix, where Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean stood on the podium behind Sebastian Vettel.

We know that the Lotus performs better in hot weather, which was the case today with a track temperature around 44 degrees. These conditions explain the strong comebacks of both Romain Grosjean and Kimi Räikkönen in the standings of this German Grand Prix: “The temperatures allow the tires to operate within their optimal range,” explains Eric Boullier in the Nürburgring paddock.
However, the feeling is that with a bit more luck, an even better result was achievable: « The safety car somewhat ruined Romain’s plans, and Kimi was blocked for 3-4 laps behind the Mercedes, losing 4 to 5 seconds. It’s bad luck. We can’t always know what others are going to do. We’ll review the race afterward to see what we can avoid, but we can’t always do what we want, » adds the Frenchman.
Besides Räikkönen’s beautiful second place, Romain Grosjean’s third position comes at the right time after a difficult period and a series of four races without scoring a point. “I believe this is a new foundation,” emphasizes Eric Boullier. “He needed a perfect weekend. He was as fast and as consistent as the world champions around him, so it’s very important.”
The next meeting is in three weeks in Hungary, a circuit where the E20 performed well last year. Räikkönen and Grosjean were on the podium then. “I believe we can have good races in the future,” concluded the director of the Lotus team who, however, does not want to make predictions about Räikkönen’s chances of reviving his title race luck: “We will see in a few races.”
