Saturday: Vettel positive, Webber fuming

Vettel was deprived of pole by a Lewis Hamilton on top form, while Mark Webber was denied a podium position due to his KERS, which once again failed to show up this afternoon in Hungary. Starting second behind a Mercedes that should be much less sprightly tomorrow, Vettel will logically aim for a big result while Webber will try to climb up the ranks.

Sebastian Vettel – 4th and 2nd:

There wasn’t much missing in this session. Lewis did a good job. I did a good lap and had two sets of new tires. I was happy with my two laps, maybe in the second one I lost a bit of time in sector 2 and wasn’t aggressive enough but it doesn’t help to sit here and say ‘we should have done this or that.’ In the end, my lap wasn’t fast enough. Mercedes has a very fast pace in qualifying. Lewis did an exceptional job today, even if you look at the gap compared to Nico. You have to be fair and respect that. I would have liked to be a bit faster and be on pole but it still puts us in a good position for tomorrow. We have a good car and a good race pace. It’s a shame that Mark had a problem with his gearbox and KERS today because he wasn’t able to fight at the front but we should still have a good race tomorrow. I’m confident.

Mark Webber – 7th and 10th:

« It was an extremely disappointing qualifying session. Obviously, we had a lot of problems with the car and lost a lot of time in the garage. We didn’t have KERS and had issues with the gearbox, which cost us time. I was satisfied with my driving, but that doesn’t matter in qualifying when you need everything to work at the limit. Instead of fighting at the front, we were fighting for the last line in Q3 with a car capable of much more, but I didn’t have the car to get the result I thought I could today. »
