Sunday: Disappointment in the Sauber camp

While the performances of the two Sauber C32 on Friday and Saturday suggested a promising race for the Swiss team, the outcome was different as Nico Hülkenberg and Esteban Gutiérrez failed to score points. The former, despite starting in 5th position, ended up in 14th place after receiving a drive-through penalty on lap 30. Gutiérrez, who started 16th on the grid, finished one place ahead.

Nico Hülkenberg – 14th:

I don’t quite understand what happened today. I felt comfortable with the car all weekend, but from the first lap, I had to struggle with it. I experienced a lot of understeer during the first two stints. Additionally, I had difficulty maneuvering the car, which made me lose a lot of time in the laps. Then, the drive-through was also very costly. Now, we need to analyze and understand the reasons why the car was so different today. It’s disappointing because there was a real chance for points.

Esteban Gutiérrez – 13th:

« We were looking for a better result this weekend, so we cannot be pleased with this race. The pace is there, but yesterday’s qualifying session affected our race today. Our strategy wasn’t ideal either. But I was able to enjoy the good battles I had today, so I take away these positive points, hoping that we will do better in Austin. »
