Sunday: Mercedes consolidates its 2nd place in the constructors’ standings

Despite a 100% Mercedes second row, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were unable to withstand the attacks from the two Red Bulls. However, Rosberg's 3rd position and Hamilton's 7th place allow the German firm to strengthen its 2nd place in the constructors' championship.

Nico Rosberg – 3rd:

I got off to a good start in the race and managed to overtake Mark. I thought we might have a chance to catch Seb, but it wasn’t possible. I was able to push hard in the first stint with the soft tires, but the second stint wasn’t as good, with a lot of oversteering, so Mark was able to get past me. After the second pit stop, the car was working much better, and we were able to set some very good lap times.

We couldn’t fight with the Red Bulls today, even though we weren’t far from them. I hope we can manage it in the upcoming races, and in any case, we were able to score important points for the Constructors’ Championship.

Lewis Hamilton – 7th:

« It was quite a difficult race for me tonight. I had some grip issues and, of course, difficulties overtaking in traffic. We also need to understand why I couldn’t get the maximum performance from the car. The guys worked very hard this weekend to get me a race-ready car, so it’s frustrating not to have delivered the best for them. I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of them for their efforts, it’s great to see that we have consolidated our second place as a constructor. Every point counts, but Nico did a very good job today to maximize the car’s potential. Let’s hope the last two races will be better for me, I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge. »
