The owner of the Austrian team Red Bull Racing – not as performing as in the past at the start of this season, Dietrich Mateschitz has renewed his criticisms of the new regulations: « Something is not working currently, it’s a regulation without rhyme or reason, » declared the Red Bull boss to the Austrian press agency APA.

According to him, the new 2014 Formula 1 regulation, which has been extensively revised, is far too complex, and it would threaten the interests of the pinnacle of motorsport: « A race should not be like a puzzle made up of various conditions, penalties, disciplines, and regulations. »

This year, Formula 1 inherited new turbo hybrid engines. Additionally, the amount of fuel has been reduced for the race, and there are new penalties such as the points license – receiving 12 penalty points over 12 months automatically results in a 1 Grand Prix suspension for the driver concerned. After four years of Red Bull’s domination, this year it’s Mercedes that is taking advantage of the new regulations to climb to the forefront of the F1 World Championship.

The Austrian billionaire had previously complained several times about this regulatory revolution. According to him, Formula 1 races are set to become boring, which will decrease the spectators’ interest in F1. This could consequently lead to a loss of interest from the media and sponsors, he believes.
