Saturday: The Sauber drivers miss an opportunity to do better
Adrian Sutil finished Q1 with an off-track excursion into the gravel trap while he was qualified for Q2. Esteban Gutiérrez experienced a similar end by hitting the barrier at the end of Q2 while on a fast lap. A missed opportunity to perform well for both Sauber drivers at Silverstone.

Esteban Gutiérrez (No. 21) – 12th and 14th [22nd on the grid]
While he was on a fast lap, the Mexican lost control of his Sauber and ended up in the barrier, finishing his qualifying disappointed: « We had a very good strategy. I think the conditions were quite difficult because the weather was really inconsistent. On my fast lap [in Q2], I was caught up by a faster car. I was trying to push as much as possible. Unfortunately, I lost the car and hit the barrier. We were both on a fast lap, and I was trying to finish mine as well as possible. »
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 5th and 16th [14th on the grid]
Like his teammate, the German finished his qualifying session with an off-track excursion, unable to defend his chances in Q2: « Unfortunately, I made a mistake today. Because when I went off the track, I didn’t pay attention to the fact that the corner was really wet. I lost the rear of the car and ended up stuck in the gravel trap. It’s a shame because I was in 9th and had managed to get into the second part of the session, but I couldn’t take part in it. »
