Boullier disappointed that McLaren F1 does not capitalize on its opportunities
Eric Boullier reflects on the German Grand Prix of F1 for McLaren. While he is satisfied with the behavior of his two drivers, he believes that his team could gain much more significant points.

Eric Boullier, the race director of McLaren, believes that his team is wasting precious points that would help in the world championship. Indeed, significant points seemed possible at Hockenheim, but the two men finished 8th and 9th respectively, earning only 6 points.
« We worked hard to find ourselves in a situation where we could score good points; the race was disappointing, » said the Frenchman to GPUpdate. « This Grand Prix should have been the opportunity to score valuable points for the world championship, unfortunately, we go home after losing ground on our main rivals. » In the constructors’ standings, McLaren is in sixth position, with 96 points, two points behind Force India, twenty behind Ferrari, and twenty-five behind Williams.
Despite the 6 points scored, Boullier is satisfied with how the two drivers performed: « At the start of the Grand Prix, Kevin was very unfortunate, starting from 4th place, he was pushing to overtake Valtteri Bottas but Felipe Massa was on the outside and probably didn’t see Kevin, who was on the inside line. He had nowhere to go. Kevin was completely blameless in the accident, so it’s even more frustrating that his chances of finishing in the top four were destroyed, » he continues.
The man from Mayenne also pays tribute to the young Dane: “I think Kevin deserves to be congratulated for the driving he demonstrated after the incident. He started again from the very back of the grid, it would have been easy to give up but Kevin drove with great maturity. The two points were the reward for his perseverance, he worked hard.”
Boullier also stated that Jenson Button drove well, despite the tire issues: He showed great fighting spirit, even though bad luck was against him. His strategy was very aggressive, as the race progressed he had to battle his opponents while his tires were worn out.
The former Lotus leader spoke about the future Hungarian Grand Prix, the next event in the world championship: « We will do our best to score some good points before the start of the summer break ».
