Sunday: Two points for Vergne and Toro Rosso in Hungary

If Daniil Kvyat was unable to finish in the points at the Hungaroring circuit after stalling at the start, Jean-Eric Vergne managed to do so, allowing the Toro Rosso team to secure two new points in the championship.

Jean-Eric Vergne (#25) – 9th

The Frenchman was pleased with his Hungarian weekend, finishing in the points: « I am delighted with this weekend, I think it was good. Regarding the race, the team did a fantastic job by making me pit immediately when the safety car came out and everything worked well. The race was really enjoyable and I took a lot of pleasure being 2nd for a good while. I knew I didn’t have the pace to stay with those around me until the end of the race, but it was an enjoyable moment. »

Given how the race unfolded, Vergne would have liked to finish in a better position but knows his car isn’t yet competitive enough for that: « Obviously, I would have liked to finish in a better position to get more points, but we still need to improve the car’s performance level. I am convinced that little by little this will happen soon, so I am really positive for the second half of the season. »

Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 14th

The Russian hoped for points, but due to a problem at the start, he ultimately finished far back. However, he prefers to focus on the positives and look ahead to the upcoming races: « It was a very difficult race. I’m not sure what happened at the start, it has never happened to me before. The engine simply stalled, and I was forced to start from the pit lane. The first part of the race wasn’t too bad. I tried to catch up, but overtaking was difficult and I struggled to manage my tires, especially while being stuck behind other cars. It’s a shame we couldn’t finish the first half of the season on a high note, but I’m sure we can turn things around and come back stronger in the next race. »
