Towards a Ferrari V6 boost thanks to Marussia

According to the Italian press, teams powered by a Ferrari power unit should benefit from a power boost for the resumption of the F1 World Championship at the end of August, starting with Scuderia Ferrari. This is thanks to the help of Marussia, who tested a new technical innovation.

Since the beginning of the year, Ferrari and Renault power units have been suffering from a power deficit compared to the Mercedes engine, but both manufacturers are working tirelessly to close the gap as best as they can. After the progress made by Renault and reported by Red Bull recently, it’s now Ferrari’s turn to gain some horsepower.

Indeed, according to *Autosprint*, Ferrari has asked Marussia to test a new innovation that allows for an increase of about 20 horsepower – which should be very useful for engine-dependent tracks like the upcoming Spa-Francorchamps and Monza. This innovation would consist of a “magic paint” that, when applied to the power unit’s shield, would provide more heat to the turbine and thus increase its power.

This improvement should allow Scuderia, and its customer teams Sauber and Marussia, to gain a few precious kilometers/hour in top speed, which will be crucial especially for the two races following the summer break, the Belgian and Italian Grand Prix.

According to the Italian publication, despite the current freeze on engine development, the FIA is expected to approve this modification based on issues with the reliability of the Italian unit.
