Sergio Perez pays tribute to Jenson Button and Nico Hülkenberg
Sergio Perez reflected on his time at McLaren, where he paid tribute to Jenson Button. Subsequently, he believes that Nico Hülkenberg is a driver who gives him a hard time.
Now a driver for Force India, Sergio Perez does not regret his stint with McLaren last season; according to him, he learned a lot from the English team. As a reminder, Perez had two brilliant seasons with Sauber, which then led him to accept an offer from McLaren to succeed Lewis Hamilton.
In 2013, McLaren had one of its worst seasons in 20 years and decided to replace the Mexican with Kevin Magnussen. Perez joined Force India for the 2014 season and insists that he became a much better driver after his stint with the Woking team.
« With hindsight, I regret nothing because I learned a lot. McLaren made me a better driver… But probably yes, it may not have been the best decision to advance my career. Checo pays tribute to his former teammate at the Grays, Jenson Button: « Jenson is a great leader, he is among the most competent so you know exactly what you want and need from the car and that made the difference for me. Having a driver like him as a teammate, especially in my third season in Formula 1, was something really positive. »
Currently at Force India, Sergio Perez believes that Nico Hülkenberg brings out the best in him this 2014 season. The two men have succeeded in making Force India an efficient team, with the Indian team having accumulated 98 points by mid-season.
The Mexican driver managed to finish 3rd at the Bahrain Grand Prix, but Hülkenberg has a 40-point lead over Perez. In the last event before the summer break, no driver scored any points. The Mexican told GPUpdate.net that the German was a fierce competitor: « Nico is certainly the strongest teammate I’ve had in F1; he is very complete. He has made me bring out the best in myself. I am very happy to have a teammate like him who pushes me, and I believe I push him to his limits as well. We have a good relationship and work well together. We are doing an excellent job for the team and the team is happy, so I think the best is yet to come. »
