The last eight races of the 2014 World Championship will prove to be decisive according to Kevin Magnussen, as McLaren continues to develop the MP4-29. They will determine McLaren’s future. First up, the Belgian Grand Prix will be a test for a team that has won 14 times in the history of this Grand Prix. However, McLaren’s performances in recent years have been challenging, with the team currently in 6th place in the constructors’ standings, one point behind Force India.

If the first part of the season began with a double podium in Melbourne, McLaren couldn’t do better than 4th place in Canada and Great Britain. This weekend, the Belgian Grand Prix takes place on a circuit appreciated by the drivers, but it requires a top aerodynamic car, a powerful engine, and the driver’s talent.

During the summer break, the drivers undertook physical training while McLaren continued to bring developments to the MP4-29, which might be noticeable during the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.

However, Eric Boullier believes that the improvements that can be made to McLaren will only be noticeable after the European season. Magnussen thinks that the team needs to make progress until Abu Dhabi, while also considering the 2015 season.

« I think the second half of this season will be extremely important for us. We must use these next eight races to assert ourselves, consolidate our development strategy to progress in the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. I know we can meet this challenge, he expressed.

The two drivers of the Woking team have both won at Spa Francorchamps. If the first won in F1, Jan Magnussen’s son has triumphed in the last two categories he competed in:

« The time has been incredibly long for 4 weeks and I can’t wait to get back in the cockpit, especially since we are at Spa, one of the best tracks in the world. I love Spa, I won in British F3 in 2011 and in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2012 and 2013. I love the fast and flowing characteristics of the circuit. Doing a quick lap during qualifying is fantastic because we string together corner after corner on the track, the car is so fast that it seems so easy. It’s fantastic. »
