Saturday: Bianchi places his Marussia in Q2 once again

Jules Bianchi managed to qualify once again for Q2 at Spa-Francorchamps, setting a very good lap in Q1. He will start from 16th position on the grid, three places ahead of Max Chilton, who encountered a problem with his MR03 but is pleased to easily outperform the two Caterhams.

Jules Bianchi (no. 17) – 19th and 16th

The Frenchman managed to enter Q2 for the second consecutive race, after Hungary, and he is delighted: « I am really happy to get into Q2 again, especially as it repeats a good performance here last year. I love this circuit and it is very special for me, so it’s always a nice feeling to do well here. »

Bianchi was surprised to do so well, even though he thinks he could have done even better: « I was a bit surprised that we had such a good qualifying session simply because the difficult conditions were the same for everyone. But we managed things better than some other teams, finishing ahead of a Lotus, a Force India, and a Sauber. I also made a small mistake at turn 10. So there was more to be done. »

Max Chilton (No. 4) – 20th and 19th

The Briton encountered an issue with his energy recovery system, and without it he thinks he could have done a bit better: « It was quite difficult on the track. So I’m happy with my lap because I didn’t have a battery – I used the energy from the previous lap when the tires weren’t at their best. I was closer to Jules in the first stint, so without the energy problem, who knows? Maybe Q2 was possible, but then Jules put in an extraordinary lap, so my congratulations to him. »

But Chilton remains confident for the race and looks ahead rather than behind with the Caterhams: « We are still well ahead of the Caterhams, and I think we can have a good race. Spa is a fantastic circuit. So, I’m going to give my best and hope for a good team result tomorrow. »
