Sunday: An error-free race for Sauber in Spa but still no points

The Sauber team is still in search of its first points of the year, but Spa did not allow for any changes. Indeed, the C33s of Gutierrez and Sutil were not fast enough to contend for a place in the top 10.

Esteban Gutiérrez (#21) – 15th

The Mexican did not have a simple race at Spa as he suffered from a lack of performance with the mediums and from his Ferrari engine, finishing too far from the points: « It was a difficult race. The strategy was to attack from the start. Unfortunately, it didn’t work as planned, but at least I was able to gain a few positions in the opening laps. Throughout the race, I struggled a lot with the mediums. This aspect complicated things and put us in a difficult position. Our pace was too slow to finish the race in the points. We need to continue working to be in the top 10 as soon as possible. »

Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 14th

Same observation for his German teammate who never managed to get past the Williams, equipped with a Mercedes engine, of Felipe Massa to aim for better than 14th place and get closer to the points: It was an exciting race, but 14th place was the maximum today. Unfortunately, I was stuck behind Felipe [Massa]. When I pitted, he pitted as well. In certain sections of the circuit, I was faster than him, but on the straights, he was simply too fast. Felipe’s engine was really too powerful and I couldn’t overtake him. We then decided to switch to a three-stop race, which in the end was the right choice. I felt more comfortable with the softs than the mediums. I’m satisfied with the weekend. The team did a good job without making any mistakes.
