Friday: Red Bull in the Rhythm in Singapore

The two Red Bull drivers ranked at the top of the timesheets during both practice sessions in Singapore. While Vettel again experienced issues, he still appears satisfied, as does Daniel Ricciardo, even though he expects to be behind the Mercedes.

Sebastian Vettel (No. 1) – 4th and 5th

The German driver encountered problems again in Singapore but he takes things philosophically: « Were we unlucky today? I don’t believe in luck and bad luck. I think we’ve done a lot over the past few years which went well, and it wasn’t just about luck; this year is different and we have some issues, but that’s part of life. We’ve solved the problems we had, and gradually things will improve. »

He prefers to focus on the positive and the fact that he was able to run on the super-softs during the second session, thanks to the work of the Red Bull mechanics: « In terms of pace, it looks good for this weekend. It was important to have good sensations with the super-softs. The mechanics worked hard and changed the engine in less than three hours after FP1, which is incredible, so thanks to them for allowing me to go out again during FP2. »

Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 5th and 3rd

The Australian driver thinks that his Red Bull could still be better, but he also knows that the Mercedes can also do better on their side and better than his Red Bull: « I have the feeling that Mercedes has a little more to offer. I saw that Hamilton is about 3 tenths behind, and Rosberg was improving and then got caught by the red flag or the yellow flag, so I don’t know. I think they have more to offer. I think we do too, but probably not enough to fight with them, but hopefully, a good night’s work will pay off tomorrow. »

Ricciardo also expects tire strategy to play an important role in the race as the softs do not seem at ease on the streets of Singapore: « I wasn’t expecting a huge difference between the tires, it seems that the softs aren’t working well, the super-softs seem normal but the softs are complicated to manage so it complicates things. The tires are going to make a huge difference in the race. »
