Double points “probably not” retained in F1 in 2015
The president of FOM, Bernie Ecclestone, indicated in Singapore that the doubling of points during the last Grand Prix of the season might not be continued next year.

The introduction of double points in F1 for the last Grand Prix of the season, a regulatory innovation announced last December by the FIA at the initiative of the Strategy Group—an authority composed equally of representatives of the FIA, the commercial rights holders, and team principals—has been heavily debated.
Decided and introduced with the aim of maintaining sports suspense as long as possible at the end of the season, this measure has been far from unanimous among both the participants in the leading discipline and the observers, whether they are consultants, journalists, or spectators.
Bernie Ecclestone pushed for the doubling of points to be extended to the last three races of the season: « I wanted it to be the last three races, and then people would have believed it was still possible for someone else to win, » he explained to Crash.net before being asked about the implementation of this provision: « No, they all say I’m crazy, so we won’t do it. »
Then, regarding the extension of the doubling of points after 2014, the president of FOM is hardly optimistic: « I don’t know, probably not. We can’t see if it worked, it depends. For my part, it seems like the right way to keep the championship open, otherwise during the last three or four races, people are racing in non-championship races. »
However, let’s remember that a regulatory change, in order to be ratified, must go through the Strategic Group and be approved at the next World Motor Sport Council in December.
