Lewis Hamilton, winner of the last Grand Prix, believes he is still in the position of the hunter against Nico Rosberg. The English driver had an idyllic weekend in Singapore where he won the race by taking advantage of Nico Rosberg’s misfortunes and used it to seize the lead in the drivers’ world championship. The 2008 world champion will arrive at the Japanese Grand Prix with a 3-point lead over his German teammate.

After this excellent operation, the Briton believes that he remains in the skin and, above all, in the mindset of the hunter against his teammate: « In my mind, I thought I could regain, at best, 7 points from Nico, at least to reduce his lead. Instead, I took back 25 points. I still feel like I’m hunting, I still feel like I’m in pursuit, and it’s a good feeling, » he stated, as quoted by the site TheF1Times about his current situation.

« That’s the game. It’s a hunting story. In my head, I don’t think I’m leading the championship. There are still five races to go and all I’m going to do is what I’ve done in the last two races, which is just to attack in every session, » continues the Mercedes driver.

Hamilton believes he will need to deliver the best races of his career to win a second title: « You just have to take one race at a time, and we don’t know what to expect. But performance-wise, I’m happy to be back at my best to get these pole positions and ensure that I maximize, that I really capitalize on these races. I want to make sure that these last five races, if I never have to race as well again in my entire life, that these next five races will be it, » he concluded.
