Saturday: Ericsson precedes the two Marussia for Caterham F1
Marcus Ericsson placed his Caterham ahead of both Marussias and the other green car of his teammate Kamui Kobayashi during the qualifying session of the Japanese Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Marcus Ericsson (#9) – 19th and 19th [17th on the grid]
The Swede delivered one of his best performances in qualifying since the start of the season. He was ahead of both Marussia drivers and his teammate, thanks notably to a gamble for Q1: « We decided to use a different strategy compared to the others, so we used only two sets of tires when the others used three – it was a small gamble but I felt comfortable in the car and was confident it could work, and it did. »
Kamui Kobayashi (No. 10) – 22nd and 21st [19th on the grid]
After the difficult Friday, with his accident at the beginning of FP2, the Japanese driver was not having a great time during this session, only outpacing Max Chilton on the timing charts: « It’s not really the best of weekends for me, but I have to say the team did a great job last night to have the car repaired and ready for me today. Because of yesterday’s crash, I couldn’t do as many laps as I wanted and didn’t use the medium tires before qualifying today, so it wasn’t an easy day. Given this situation, I think my lap was quite good, and we’ll see what happens. »
