Saturday: Sauber F1 could aim no higher than 15th according to Sutil
The Japanese Grand Prix qualifying did not allow Sauber to do better than 15th place for Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez.
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 18th and 15th [14th on the grid]
The German believes he couldn’t do much better than his result in Q2 despite making progress: « So far, it’s been a difficult weekend for us. The car is not easy to drive, yet we managed to make consistent progress in qualifying. I made it into Q2, and then we made some changes to the car’s balance, which allowed us to take a significant step forward. So, I was able to improve my lap time at the end of Q2, but better than 15th place was not possible. »
Esteban Gutierrez (No. 21) – 14th and 16th [15th on the grid]
For the Mexican, Q2 did not go well in terms of traffic or tires: « Q1 was quite positive and solid. But then, I encountered traffic on my out lap in Q2, which somewhat compromised my performance. The tire performance was not at the expected level, so it was difficult to get the tires to work. »
