Saturday: Gutierrez and Sutil race each other in Sochi for Sauber F1
Too slow for the teams in front but too fast for the teams behind, the two Sauber drivers are battling each other, with the advantage going to Esteban Gutierrez in Sochi.
Esteban Gutierrez (No. 21) – 15th and 14th [13th on the grid]
The Mexican is satisfied with the internal fight with Adrian Sutil whom he dominated: « It was interesting today. We lost a lot of time this morning due to a technical issue. I was always trying things during FP3, and during qualifying laps, I was able to improve with each stint. It was very important to put in a good lap on the track at the end of the session. I think it’s a great fight between Adrian and me, we really push each other to the limit which is exciting. »
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 14th and 15th [14th on the grid]
The German knows he could have finished ahead of his teammate but is somewhat fatalistic: « It was a normal qualifying, but it was difficult to get the tires up to temperature. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to extract the maximum because I made a mistake on my last lap. Without this incident, I probably would have finished one position ahead, which wouldn’t have made a big difference. In the current circumstances, there’s nothing more to expect. »
