As has often been the case for several years, the arrival of the Volkswagen Group in F1 is being mentioned, whether through VW itself or its subsidiaries Porsche or Audi.

Auto Express claimed this week that the brand with the rings had decided to abandon the DTM and Endurance to focus on Formula 1 with a potential entry by 2016.

But this rumor was denied by Audi Sport on social media: « Audi in F1? These rumors have been appearing regularly for years. It is pure speculation once again and without any basis. We are involved in the World Endurance Championship, in DTM, and in Grand Touring. In 2015, we will add the Audi Sport TT Cup to our program. »

With 13 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans over the past 15 years and two World Endurance Championship titles in 2012 and 2013, Audi has built one of the most impressive records in motorsport, but it has never ventured into Formula 1. Porsche’s brief history in F1 (32 GP between 1957 and 1964, then the engine supply for McLaren-TAG Porsche between 1983 and 1987, and for Arrows for just six Grand Prix in 1991) was, in fact, written before the company was acquired by Volkswagen.

The possibility of Audi entering F1 is frequently considered by the brand, but it does not seem to be on the horizon for the next two or three seasons.
