In the grip of financial difficulties and still uncertain about its direction, the Caterham F1 team will not participate in the next two F1 Grand Prix, which will take place in Austin, USA, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Anglo-Malaysian team was sold by Tony Fernandes to a Swiss consortium, Evangest SA, but things are dragging on and an administrator has been appointed to manage the team, yet its future is darkening as financial difficulties are indeed present.

The situation is complicated for all the members of the Leafield team, especially its two drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson, who will have to watch their colleagues on television for the next two races.

The Japanese driver, replaced by André Lotterer in Belgium, discussed the situation on his official website, thinking about the future: « Unfortunately, due to the team’s situation, I will not be able to race in the United States and Brazil Grand Prix. I am sorry for the fans who were looking forward to these races. As I closely observe the situation, I will evaluate my options and make the best choice for my future. »

Same disappointment for Marcus Ericsson, who is competing in his first F1 season this year, but the Swede remains optimistic: « Busy period. A lot is happening right now. But I’m working hard as usual and staying positive. Thanks to all my fantastic fans for their support. »

Caterham will not be the only team absent in the United States; in fact, the Marussia team will also not be present, leaving a grid of only 18 cars for this weekend’s Grand Prix.
