The Auto GP championship, which uses single-seaters from the defunct A1 GP Nations Cup, has decided to offer its 2015 champion a Formula 1 test.

« We have worked hard to make Auto GP the best possible choice by improving the car’s performance, consolidating media exposure through the partnership with Eurosport, and optimizing the necessary budget once again. All these things will be available for young drivers hoping to enter Formula 1: and the 2015 Auto GP drivers’ champion will get an excellent start with a prize of a test with one of the best F1 teams, » explains the championship’s boss, Enzo Coloni, on the official site.

The Auto GP notably counts among its champions, the Frenchman Romain Grosjean (in 2009) and Kimiya Sato, the 2013 champion who tested a Sauber F1 last year during the young driver tests held at Silverstone.

Thanks to the optimizations made, an Auto GP season should cost around 400,000 euros for a total of 7 events planned for 2015 at the moment: Marrakech, Budapest, Silverstone, Le Castellet, Brno, the Nürburgring, and one last event to be confirmed.
