After five years at Maranello, Fernando Alonso reflects on his unfruitful Ferrari adventure. According to him, the Italian team will start winning again because it's in the team's DNA.

Three-time vice world champion in 2010, 2012, and 2013, Fernando Alonso leaves Ferrari without having won a third world crown. The Spanish driver believes that the Scuderia should always be favorites to win the constructors’ or drivers’ championship given the resources it possesses.

Alonso, expected at McLaren, was replaced by Sebastian Vettel, coming from Red Bull, for the 2015 season. The German actually took the wheel of the F2012 this Saturday, in Fiorano.

This season, Ferrari has not won a single race, a first since 1993, a season during which Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger were at the wheel.

The double world champion took stock of his time in red: « From the outside, now, it will be difficult to judge [the performance]. What we lacked during these 5 years was rather at the level of car performance and perhaps additional technical resources, let’s say. We have not been at our best in certain areas: in aerodynamics at the beginning and at the level of the power unit today. »

« [Ferrari] has talented people and resources, there’s motivation in this team and with time they will start winning again. Next year, they will be favorites because every year they have to be. Everyone expects them to win in Formula 1. That’s what we’ve seen on television throughout the history of Formula 1, and next year they will be very strong, » assures the Asturian for ESPN F1.

When asked about the difficulties faced by his teammate in /f1/actualite/19175-alonso-ferrari-etait-en-difficulte-sur-beaucoup-de-choses.html, Kimi Räikkönen, who particularly struggled with the front of his car, Fernando Alonso admits that this issue was significant but believes the problem is much more complex: “When you are far behind like we were this season, it’s because you are having difficulty with many things, not just one. The front was certainly the most complicated.”
