Official: Esteban Gutierrez test and reserve driver for Ferrari
Scuderia Ferrari announced the arrival of Esteban Gutierrez in their ranks starting from the 2015 season. The Mexican driver will serve as a test and reserve driver for the Italian team.
Ferrari announced today the recruitment of Esteban Gutierrez as a test and reserve driver. The Mexican will have the privilege of working alongside Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel next season in this behind-the-scenes role, after two years as a main driver with the Sauber F1 team, which decided not to retain him.
In the statement published on Ferrari’s F1 website, Maurizio Arrivabene, the team director of the Reds, expressed his delight at the arrival of the young Mexican driver to the Italian team: While confirming our full confidence in our formidable pair of race drivers, consisting of four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen, a former champion with Ferrari, I am thrilled to welcome Esteban Gutierrez. We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to Esteban who, although young, also has a lot of experience with the new generation of Formula 1 cars. I am sure that with his experience, he will make an important contribution to the team’s development work in the simulator.
Gutierrez, who had only interacted with Ferrari through the engines supplied by the Maranello team to Sauber – which decided not to retain him for 2015, is also thrilled and enthusiastic about joining such a prestigious team: « It is an honor to become a member of the Scuderia Ferrari family, a team with an exceptional history.
