The director of the Red Bull Racing team, Christian Horner, stated that Adrian Newey will attend races in 2015 with the team. This means that the English engineer has not completely left F1.

Adrian Newey’s resume needs no rewriting over the past twenty years, yet the English engineer is seeking new challenges outside of F1. Last June, Red Bull announced that their engineer would step back from the world of F1 and invest more in their Advanced Technologies division, a branch that has recently emerged at Red Bull.

This season many restrictions have been implemented in F1, the English engineer was unable to adapt to the new regulations, this year it was Mercedes who took advantage. Despite this mixed season, Christian Horner insists that Adrian Newey will still be at a few races in 2015 and explains the projects the former McLaren engineer will be working on.

« Adrian is taking a bit of a step back, but he remains involved. He supervised the design of the new car and will attend some of the races, and he will be present at one of the preseason tests. He will divide his time between Formula One and Red Bull Advanced Technologies. We recently announced a project with Ben Ainslie Racing, and a participation in the America’s Cup to represent Great Britain is planned. This is why he will work on simulation and mathematical modeling. It’s great to still have Adrian as part of the team and that he can advise Dan Fallows, Rob Marshall, Pierre Wache, and Paul Monaghan. We have a very complete technical team, » Horner explains on the Red Bull website.

After a 2014 season where their start was problematic due to a faulty Renault turbo power unit, Red Bull managed to bounce back to finish second in the constructors’ championship. That’s why in 2015, Renault will work closely with Red Bull to make the Milton Keynes team more competitive:

« From a regulatory standpoint, nothing is really going to change. We now have a lot of work with Renault to catch up with Mercedes. On their side, Mercedes is not going to stand still. »

Horner believes that despite the arrival of a new driver – Kvyat – within the team, everything will go well: « For the 2015 season we have a new driver who will accompany Daniel Ricciardo, it is of course Daniil Kvyat, it will be an exciting new dynamic and we are going to work very hard. We will see Sebastian in red for the upcoming season which will be something strange for the first few races. I think we are ready for a just fantastic 2015 season, Fernando Alonso is going to McLaren. The 2015 season will be marked by change. »

The departure of the four-time German champion allowed for the recruitment of Kvyat. Christian Horner praises the Red Bull young drivers program, where the energy drink executives can trust their young talents: « I think Daniel Ricciardo’s progress this year has given us real confidence. We gave him the opportunity to invest himself in the team, while trusting him, which is why we’re going to invest in our pool of young drivers. That’s why we took Daniil Kvyat. I’ve known him for a long time since he’s a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. He drove for my team in GP3 and won the title that way. From mid-season to the end of the season, he has been really impressive. »
