The start time of the Australian Grand Prix is expected to remain unchanged this season despite the recommendation made by the panel of experts established following the accident of Jules Bianchi on the Suzuka circuit in Japan. It was suggested to bring forward the start time of races whose finish time is close to sunset, except for the twilight race in Abu Dhabi and night races.

« It is proposed that a regulation or directive be established so that the start time of an event is no less than four hours before sunset or twilight, » explained the final report of the expert panel appointed by the International Automobile Federation.

However, the Australian Grand Prix organizer, Andrew Westacott, explained to the Australian newspaper Herald Sun that the start time of the race held in Melbourne this season would not change: « The [start] time of the race will remain at 5 PM under the agreement between the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Formula One Management, which means that Melbourne, as the inaugural race of the season, is broadcast at mealtime in Asia and at breakfast time in Europe. »
