Ecclestone: The 2015 German GP at Hockenheim and not at the Nurburgring

Bernie Ecclestone revealed that the 2015 German Grand Prix should be held at Hockenheim and not at the Nürburgring as it should have been with the alternating arrangement in place. However, the officials from the Hockenheim circuit have been more cautious about the progress of the discussions.

The organization of the German Grand Prix is supposed to alternate between the Hockenheim and Nürburgring circuits. But according to Bernie Ecclestone, while the 2014 GP was held at Hockenheim, the 2015 race will once again take place on the same circuit.

« This is going to happen in Hockenheim, we are still in discussions with them. It cannot be at the Nürburgring because there is no one there. We have a contract [with Hockenheim], we just need to amend the years of the contract. There was an alternation with the Nürburgring so we are going to remove that. The finalization of the contract is underway as planned, we are on the right track, » Ecclestone told Reuters.

The Nürburgring circuit was put up for sale in recent months, and while Bernie Ecclestone made an offer twice, they were not accepted. Ultimately, the circuit is now two-thirds owned by Russian investor Viktor Kharitonin through one of his companies, and the remaining third belongs to the company GetSpeed.

If Bernie Ecclestone seems sure about the organization of the 2015 German GP in Hockenheim, on the side of the circuit officials, caution is the order of the day as a spokesperson told GPUpdate.net: « We do not have a contract for 2015. We are open to negotiations, but nothing is set in stone for now. »

Note that in the 2015 calendar published by the FIA, the location of the German Grand Prix has not been specified.
