Hamilton: Mercedes could be even stronger
With 16 wins in 19 Grand Prix last season, Mercedes overwhelmingly dominated the competition. In 2015, the gap with the other teams could widen even further, according to Lewis Hamilton's predictions.
Speaking on the official Formula 1 website, the reigning champion admitted his impatience before the start of hostilities next March: “The season looks interesting,” summarized the Englishman, before going into more detail about the future competition that Mercedes will have to face.
« Honda is back, which is really nice considering their history with McLaren » continued the former Woking driver. The resurgence of Williams also excites him: « I’m excited to see how Williams has bounced back – it’s great to see such an iconic team back, and I can’t wait to fight with them once again. And of course, there are Red Bull and Ferrari. »
A question is on everyone’s lips before the start of the season: has the gap between Mercedes and the rest of the field narrowed during the winter? Nothing is less certain for the English driver, who even envisions his team being even more dominant this season: « Unfortunately for this small world, it will be difficult for them to compete with us. There are plenty of areas where we can improve to be even better than last season, which is hard to believe after such a dominant year. But I know this team. I know how impressive we can be. »
The first elements of an answer could be provided during the private tests in Jerez which start tomorrow. Lewis Hamilton will take the wheel of the W06 on Monday and Wednesday.
