McLaren: Boullier remains hopeful despite challenging tests

Like Red Bull and Lotus last year, McLaren experienced one of the most challenging winters with its latest creation, the MP4-30. Nevertheless, there is hope according to Eric Boullier, who claims that the British car has shown promising potential.

Two weeks before the first race of the season, the men from Woking will have their work cut out to ensure that Fernando Alonso’s and Jenson Button’s cars go the distance. For its return to Formula 1 after a six-year absence, Honda probably did not expect to encounter such difficulties.

Analyzing the last four weeks, we can say that our winter program has been complicated, laments Eric Boullier. However, we expected it. Last year, we saw several teams in a similar situation when the new engines were introduced for the first time. In addition to that, we have to deal with the complexity of a more compact package.

The fact of having driven little means that we won’t be as ready as we would have liked, but we must hold onto the positives. All the collected data confirms that we had reached the objectives we had set for ourselves. Even if the start of the season will be complicated, we know that we will develop quickly and that we will quickly unlock the potential of the McLaren-Honda MP4-30.
