For the moment, the situation remains unclear regarding the case of Giedo van der Garde, after the Supreme Court of the State of Victoria ruled in his favor against his employer. Following the judgment and the rejected appeal, Sauber is obliged to have the Dutchman race. Doubts still linger concerning the driver’s Super License.

A damaging image for F1, but completely understandable for Nico Hülkenberg, who supported Giedo van der Garde. “I think they’ve signed with four drivers, but they only have two cars,” Hülkenberg explains to the BBC. “That’s not what should have been done. Giedo wants what he was promised and what he signed and paid for. He is within his rights.”

Having passed through Sauber in 2013, Hülkenberg is well aware of the difficulties faced by the Swiss team. Nevertheless, he does not condone the actions of his former employers.

« I am not surprised because I know these people, I know how it has happened in the past, » adds the Force India driver. « They are desperate and need money to survive, which is the general problem in F1. But I don’t think that’s a way to do things and treat people. »
