After being beaten by Nico Rosberg on Friday, Lewis Hamilton set things straight during FP3. The Brit confirmed during the qualifying session by securing the 39th pole position of his Formula 1 career.

« It’s a great way to kick off the race weekend and, honestly, I don’t feel like much time has passed since the last race, » explains Hamilton. « The guys at the factory have done an extremely good job so that we can have such a car, and I’m thrilled to be able to drive it. »

I’ve worked hard with the engineers yesterday and we found the right balance. In this session, I just tried to attack as much as possible and everything fell into place correctly. It’s so pleasing when everything works. There’s still a lot of work to do because it will be a real challenge to win here tomorrow.

For his part, Nico Rosberg was slightly disappointed to have lost his first duel against his teammate, but the German knows perfectly well that the points are distributed on Sunday and that it is then that he must perform at his best.

Lewis did a good job today, explains Rosberg. He drove like a champion. I also feel we had the speed to beat him, but I didn’t do the perfect lap. However, I am satisfied because the team once again gave us a good car.

« Tomorrow, the race will be long. Many things can happen, and I will put on a show. My long runs on Friday were better than Lewis’s, but he made some changes to his settings, so perhaps we can expect better from him. »
