Yesterday, Daniel Ricciardo had completed only a handful of laps before his car encountered a series of mechanical issues. The day seemed to start poorly, but the Australian secured an unexpected seventh place in qualifying in front of his home crowd.

« We made progress throughout the session, which is promising, » explains Ricciardo. « I think seventh place accurately reflects our current performance so I am happy to achieve this result despite the weekend not going very well so far ».

« In qualifying, it was the first time we used soft tires. Today, we couldn’t have done better. The progress we made in qualifying is real, and I hope we can continue like this during the race. »

For his part, Daniil Kvyat experienced a complicated start to the season with Red Bull. The Russian will start from the 13th place on the grid and he too has been the victim of numerous mechanical problems at the beginning of the weekend.

« We are trying to do our best, » explains Kvyat. « It was hard to achieve a better result with few laps, so I tried to stay in the rhythm as much as possible. I wasn’t confident enough to do a good lap. It’s not easy at the moment since we are trying to solve our problems, but we are making progress. »
