Fernando Alonso will be back in his seat at Sepang after undergoing a series of physical tests approved by the FIA. The Spaniard will thus compete in his first Grand Prix of the year with McLaren-Honda in Malaysia. As a reminder, he was replaced by Kevin Magnussen in Melbourne for the inaugural race of the 2015 season following an accident during testing in Barcelona.

A spokesperson for the FIA expressed their views on the subject as quoted by Sky Sports F1: « In accordance with normal procedures, McLaren Honda driver Fernando Alonso was examined this morning by the FIA medical delegate and the Sepang circuit doctor. During the series of examinations, the driver passed all mandatory fitness tests and was therefore deemed fit to race this weekend. »

The double world champion also shared the information on his Twitter feed to reassure his supporters and demonstrate his motivation to race for this season’s second round.

After injuring his lower back during the Australian GP qualifiers, Valtteri Bottas started a race against time to be fit for the next event in Malaysia. Like Alonso, he was declared fit, with Williams relaying the news on their official website.

« Thanks to the help of his coach and a leading physiotherapist according to the Williams site, Valtteri Bottas received the green light from the FIA medical team to race this weekend. The team was fully supportive of their driver’s return, » notes the Grove team.

The Finn is delighted to be able to race and intends to give it his all to achieve a good result for his first race of the year.
