After a disrupted first day, Lewis Hamilton admitted that his problems had heavily compromised his free practice sessions despite his fastest final time during FP2.

After technical issues encountered during FP1, which forced him to stop on track and were found to be related to a data recovery problem by the team, the reigning world champion faced a similar issue during the afternoon session before being able to go back out and set the best time of 1:39.790 (medium tires).

My preparations have been quite heavily compromised. Every time you lose a session, it really doesn’t help and a large part of the second one too, but the team did a fantastic job repairing the car and I’m grateful for that. Just being able to do a few laps was crucial. If I hadn’t done anything today, Sunday would have been difficult, he explains as reported by Crash.net.

He believes that despite his best time, he can still do much better: « I know my lap wasn’t spectacular, I think I have some improvements to make in terms of balance and settings; they all come from the last race, so I’m sure we will improve that. »

Hamilton is impressed by the pace of his closest competitors: « The Ferraris are impressive! It’s surprising to see how good their times are. We’ll see if this continues all weekend. »
