Vettel believes that Red Bull and Toro Rosso can compete with Ferrari

For Sebastian Vettel, the day was good even though he couldn't set a competitive timed lap during FP2. He believes that the competition from Ferrari might not be limited to just Williams.

After a rather quiet first day, Sebastian Vettel indicated that he expected Ferrari and Williams to be in the fight this weekend, perhaps even with Red Bull and Toro Rosso.

Like most of the other competitors, the German had to contend with grip issues related to the heat of the track, particularly causing his spin during Free Practice 2, preventing him from setting a decent time on medium tires. His teammate, Kimi Räikkönen, managed to climb to second place, nearly four-tenths behind Lewis Hamilton.

« It’s quite hot, which makes it difficult for the cars to work with the tires, but overall I think it was a good day. I’m not entirely happy with myself, I spun out, but I think you have to try, and if there’s a day when you can choose to try, it was today, » he said, as reported by Crash.net. « I pushed a bit too much when I made the mistake. We’re here to try, I tried and it went wrong. The fault had nothing to do with bad luck, it was just me pushing a bit too much thinking it could work, and I couldn’t. »

Regarding competition, he has a broad view: « I think it’s hard to say where we stand compared to Mercedes, they haven’t had a clear day. I think it will be close between Williams and us. Red Bull as well as Toro Rosso too, probably. It’s hard to say, it’s close. But at the front, Mercedes is strong. »
