Mercedes: Rosberg Attacks in Vain, Hamilton More Serene
Outpaced by his teammate in Canada, Nico Rosberg admitted he had tried everything to finish on the top step of the podium. But despite the German's offensives, Lewis Hamilton, being faster, never felt in danger.

On the podium, Nico Rosberg, although beaten once again by his teammate Lewis Hamilton, did not look too disappointed: « Second place isn’t so bad! Of course, I lost time in Q3 during qualifying, and, as most of the time, the difference is largely built on Saturday. »
Would one see an ounce of fatalism in Nico Rosberg? In any case, the vice world champion, struggling with brake wear issues like last year in Montreal, had to somewhat pay attention to his mechanics, which didn’t stop him from being on the offensive during the 70 laps of the race: « I attacked like crazy, but Lewis didn’t make any mistakes. Our battle was fair and square. I had to save my brakes, but Lewis was in the same situation as me. I didn’t succeed, that’s how it is. »
Winner almost without incident, even though the Teutonic threat was never far off, Lewis Hamilton appeared happy and relaxed on the podium: « It wasn’t an easy race. I had quite a bit of understeer. However, I was never really under pressure. Nico was fast, but I knew I had the situation under control. I could have gone faster if necessary. I was never truly in danger. It was intense. I loved it. »
After a defeat in Spain and his spectacular and unexpected disappointment in the Principality, the double world champion clearly needed a normal weekend: « Everything went well, I am very satisfied to regain the taste of victory. The car’s balance wasn’t optimal, but I was able to control the gap. Did I need this? Yes, I think so! »
Lewis Hamilton also made a point of dedicating his victory to his race engineer’s father.
