The layout of the Austrian Grand Prix is the worst possible thing for Marko and Red Bull
The next race of the Formula 1 season will take place in Austria, at the Red Bull Ring. However, the four-time world champion team has already announced that the track layout, made up of long straights, will be extremely detrimental to them.

During the last Canadian Grand Prix, where engine power clearly distinguishes performance between the cars, the Red Bull-Renaults displayed a rather disappointing performance, with Daniil Kvyat’s 9th place being the best result. The diamond brand still shows a significant power deficit, which cannot be remedied before the next Austrian Grand Prix.
However, this one, taking place on Red Bull’s home ground, makes even more room for long straights: the speed of Mercedes and Ferrari engines should therefore easily prevail over the more nervous Renault power units. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s driver advisor, has already warned that the race will be even more difficult for us. The circuit mainly consists of acceleration out of tight corners and long straights, which is the worst possible scenario given our current engine situation, he declared to the Austrian agency APA.
Last year, the Red Bull Grand Prix turned into a fiasco, with a modest 8th place achieved by Daniel Ricciardo.
If the engine will not evolve before Austria, chassis improvements are nevertheless expected for Red Bull. As Christian Horner confirmed: « We have made progress with the chassis, and we have seen the results since the second race in Malaysia. The good news is that we can improve the car every two weeks, whereas evolving the engine takes much longer. »
