The Race of Champions will take place in London
After Barbados last year, the Race of Champions will take place on November 20th and 21st in the British capital.
The former Olympic stadium in London will host the next Race of Champions, marking the first time since 2008. The Race of Champions is an event that brings together the world’s greatest drivers from various motorsport disciplines, such as Formula 1, Rally, Endurance, Moto GP, NASCAR, and IndyCar. Each driver competes in identical single-seaters to be judged solely on their talent.
During the last edition, it was David Coulthard who won this edition in Barbados. For 2015, the Race of Champions will be brought to Wembley Stadium. David Coulthard spoke with our colleagues from Crash: « It’s fantastic that the Race of Champions is in London. Each event has been special in its own way, but motor racing has a heritage in England. Hosting the race as a Briton, in such an iconic venue as the former Olympic stadium, is a great opportunity. I’m sure it will be a great edition ».
The former McLaren-Mercedes driver looks back on last year’s edition, which he won: “I’m proud and still embarrassed to have won last year. There are younger and more talented drivers participating, but it’s thanks to the knockout system. You get a chance to compare your driving style against a wide range of different drivers in a large number of different vehicles.”
For this 2015 edition, David Coulthard will defend his title. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, also expressed his enthusiasm: “Our magnificent stadium proves to be the perfect venue for sports of all kinds, and the Race of Champions looks set to provide motorsport fans with two days of thrilling racing. I’m sure the stadium will be packed with Londoners excited at the chance to see some of the world’s greatest race drivers compete.”
The British capital seems to be more supportive of motorsport than ever, as it will also host the final two events of the Formula E championship.
