Marcus Ericsson scores another point for Sauber

Just like in Hungary before the break, Marcus Ericsson scored the point for tenth place for Sauber. Felipe Nasr, slowed by brake issues, finished ten seconds behind his teammate.

The departure of the Swede was decisive in shaping the overall result: First of all, I had a good start by managing to overtake Daniil [Kyvat] with a good maneuver up to turn 5. However, he had a scare afterwards: Very early in the race we realized that I had some debris stuck to the floor, which made us lose downforce during the first stint. We couldn’t fight with the rest of the pack, so we lost ground, which was a bit frustrating. During the second stint, we got rid of the debris and I was able to ask more from the car.

Marcus Ericsson was expecting to be faster in Belgium, especially because Sauber was finally benefiting from recent developments of the Ferrari engine: « The pace wasn’t as strong as hoped. We were a bit lucky towards the end [after Vettel’s tire blew out], and we were able to score a point. »

Outpaced by his teammate in qualifying, Felipe Nasr could have taken advantage of Marcus Ericsson’s troubles to score points. But his race was not a smooth one either: « It was a difficult race for me. My race was compromised by brake problems. On top of that, I had a slow puncture on the front-left tire during my first stint. »

Monisha Kaltenborn, the Team Principal, confirms that Sauber is not satisfied with this modest point: « It was a difficult race weekend, and we expected a bit more. Despite some issues, we still managed to score a point, with a bit of luck at the end. »
