After his “rookie mistake,” Kvyat will have to start from the pits
Unscathed after a quite impressive off-track excursion in Q3, Daniil Kvyat will have to start from the pits in the race tomorrow at Suzuka. The Russian himself admitted to having made "a rookie mistake."

It was at the end of the session, today in Japan, that Daniil Kvyat violently went off track, just before the hairpin, after losing control of his Red Bull. The Russian had left two wheels in the grass and had no choice but to acknowledge his mistakes after the session: « I’m fine. I feel more disappointment than pain. I made a rookie mistake by putting two wheels in the grass. Since there’s no escape route, I had nowhere to go. It was the normal outcome. It was indeed spectacular. I’m sorry for the team. »
Even though he qualified 10th after securing his spot in Q3, Daniil Kvyat will unfortunately have to start from the pits this Sunday. His Red Bull was seriously damaged, and the gearbox and especially the chassis will be replaced by the team’s mechanics.
Long hours of work are therefore already scheduled in the Red Bull garage, as confirmed by the team director, Christian Horner: « The most important thing today is that Dany is okay after what was truly a very big accident in Q3. It shows the strength of these cars and why safety is always our priority in this sport. Obviously, we will have a very productive long night to give him a car for the race tomorrow. He will have to start from the pits and will have nothing to lose, so he will drive an aggressive race. »
