The Nurburgring interested in a return in 2017
Due to the lack of a contractual and financial agreement, the German Grand Prix did not take place this year. This is a first since 1960. If the German event returns next season in Hockenheim, its future in the "green hell" is still uncertain for 2017.

In Motorsport-Total, Carsten Schumacher, managing director at Nurburgring, explains that the German circuit can be a candidate in 2017: « We had long discussions this year about Formula 1. We were very committed to ensuring that we have a race. I regret, in the end, that it did not take place; we could not and did not want to take risks. Instead of having F1 this year, we had the WEC race. It was an incredible success ».
Carsten Schumacher naturally regrets that the Grand Prix could not take place for the fans; but he still believes that no wrong decision was made: « Naturally, I have regrets for the fans, the region, and also for us, that the Grand Prix could not happen, but there was also a financial aspect. In hindsight, we haven’t met anyone who told us that we made the wrong decision ».
He finally confirms that he is in discussions with Bernie Ecclestone for the return of F1 to the Nurburgring: « We are striving to have a race in 2017 and we are in discussions with Bernie Ecclestone. Formula 1 is not a topic that is off the table. I hope that Formula 1 will regain what made it strong, and if the value is real, then we will return ».
