Sauber records its worst qualifying result in a decade
It had been ten years since a Sauber had set the slowest time during a qualifying session, so the disappointment was strong for Felipe Nasr, who qualified 22nd. Marcus Ericsson set the 17th time.

17th in the qualifying session, Marcus Ericsson was outpaced by Pascal Wehrlein’s Manor and could only take solace in having outpaced his teammate: « It was a decent qualification, even if the result is not satisfying. As a team, we did a good job all weekend given the car’s setup and configuration. We all know we need to find more pace because we cannot be satisfied with being eliminated in Q1 again. »
Felipe Nasr simply posted the slowest time on Saturday. Thanks to Kevin Magnussen’s penalty, he will start 21st, but it was the first time in a decade that a Sauber was the slowest of all cars in qualifying: « We clearly had some issues with my car. We need to look at this more closely. On the other hand, we have a good reference point with the other car in our garage, so we need to analyze the data and understand what we need to change for the race » explained the Brazilian, without revealing more, after the session.
