The RB12’s potential could offer Daniil Kvyat further podiums

Daniil Kvyat leaves China with a podium that is as deserved as it is unexpected. The Russian driver finished ahead of his team-mate and confirmed the potential of his machine.

After two inconspicuous initial races, Daniil Kvyat truly launched his season this Sunday in Shanghai. More fortunate than his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who saw his left rear tire delaminate after only a few laps, the young Russian smoothly drove his Red Bull to third place, although he couldn’t resist Sebastian Vettel’s incredible comeback.

At a time when the Verstappen threat is becoming more apparent for him, Daniil Kvyat could savor his performance today: « I really enjoyed the race today. Our pace was very solid, and achieving this result on a track where we did not expect to be so strong is really great. »

The RB12 has confirmed its potential and could become, if developments keep pace, a constant threat to Ferrari, and even Mercedes. « The car performed very well today, the chassis is very easy to handle and with more developments to come on the power unit, we should be in a better position » confirmed Kvyat. « It’s also good for the team to consistently fight for podiums this year. It’s very encouraging for the season ».

Daniil Kvyat had, however, collided with Sebastian Vettel right from the start. The German was much more affected by this racing incident, for which the Russian clearly does not take responsibility: « I think it was a proper overtaking move on Vettel. I saw a gap and went for it. We didn’t touch. Unfortunately for him, Kimi [Räikkönen] was on the other side. For me, it was a logical overtaking move » he defended himself.

In two weeks, Kvyat will want to confirm the potential of his car on his home turf, in Sochi.
