Pirelli will bring its softest range of tires for the Austrian Grand Prix, namely, the Soft tires with yellow bands, the Super Soft tires with red bands, and finally, the Ultra Soft tires with purple bands.

As usual, the Softs will be the least favored by the drivers, who will take one to two sets each. It’s worth noting that, for this type of tire, choices vary between teammates in the same team, for example, Sebastian Vettel will bring only one set while Kimi Räikkönen will bring two.

As for the Super Soft tires, the choices are also very variable, ranging from two sets for the Red Bull, Force India, and McLaren drivers, to five compounds for Sebastian Vettel and the Haas drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.

Finally, for the Ultra Soft mix, the choices are still very contrasting, with the minimum number of these tires taken by the drivers being seven sets for Ferrari, Haas, and Sauber drivers. However, some drivers will take up to ten sets of the softest compound in the Pirelli range, namely the Force India and McLaren drivers.

Let’s recall that the regulations stipulate that each team will be allocated a set of ultra-softs for Q3 and that the drivers who qualify for it will start the race with the set of tires on which they set their best time in Q2. The mandatory race tires will be the Super Softs and the Ultra Softs.
