Canada – Free Practice 2: Verstappen confirms, engine alert for Ricciardo
Max Verstappen confirms his good form from FP1 by once again setting the fastest time. Daniel Ricciardo is only 3rd after a problem was detected with the Renault engine of his car. Kimi Räikkönen's Ferrari manages to squeeze between the two Austrian cars.

After the best time of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull during the first free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix, the 20 drivers on the grid set out once again to attack the clock for this second session, still in perfect weather conditions with over 20 degrees in the air and 45 degrees on the track.
After handing over his Force India seat to Nicholas Latifi this morning, Sergio Pérez gets back behind the wheel and thus begins his Canadian weekend.
Lap times are expected to approach track records during this session. Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton are already exchanging the first place, but the Mercedes take the advantage with a Hamilton/Bottas one-two, just ahead of Max Verstappen.
It is at the moment of this timed battle that Carlos Sainz decides to push his Renault beyond the limits by hitting the wall at the exit of the second chicane. The Spaniard severely damages his rear wing and scatters carbon debris on the track, forcing the race direction to wave the red flag to clean up the corner exit. Sainz’s session is over, confirming a difficult weekend for Renault following Hülkenberg’s gearbox issues in the first sessions.

The drivers are back on track after a brief interruption, and Räikkönen immediately grabs the best time with 1.12.328 on Hyper soft tires. Meanwhile, in the Red Bull garage, there’s a frenzy around Ricciardo’s car. An engine problem seems to be the cause of this commotion… Nevertheless, the Australian puts on his helmet, ready to hit the track.
On Verstappen’s side, everything is going well for the moment as the Dutchman takes the best time with 1:12.198 on Hyper soft tires as well. Räikkönen, Hamilton, Bottas, Grosjean, Ocon, Alonso, Leclerc, Hartley, and Hülkenberg complete the Top 10 halfway through the session.
The walls of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit claim another victim in the person of Stoffel Vandoorne, who loses his right rear suspension after a slight touch and has to abandon his car a few meters further.

Good news in the Red Bull camp as Ricciardo is back on the track. He immediately sets significant times while the other drivers use the end of the session to start race simulations. The Australian climbs to third position, but with Super soft tires, leaving some room for improvement. The Red Bulls are fast on this first day, but the reliability of the Renault engine in the car of the recent Monaco winner could dampen the team’s ambitions. To be watched closely…
