Winner until the end. Lewis Hamilton escaped the stewards’ penalty, who had met with him and his team to discuss the incident in the pit lane.

Guilty of crossing the white line separating the pit lane from the track, Lewis Hamilton received only a simple reprimand from the stewards, his first of the season.

To justify their decision, the jury relied on the confusion between the driver and the team regarding the choice of entering the pits or not. According to the stewards, the error was simply not deliberate and therefore not penalizing. Furthermore, the action was carried out under a safety car regime, which would also exonerate the Mercedes team and its driver, who did not cause any danger to other competitors.

The Briton therefore keeps his victory, the fourth of his season, after successes in Azerbaijan, Spain, and France. Lewis Hamilton indeed regains the lead of the championship after surrendering it due to his retirement in Austria.
