Charles Leclerc – "I missed F1 during the summer break"

The Monegasque took a vacation away from the Formula 1 microcosm this summer and admits that he actually missed it. For him, the future is not yet decided, but he is confident about his possibilities for 2019.

Formula 1 resumes in Belgium, and the Sauber-Alfa Romeo driver returns to the environment he was completely cut off from for these four weeks, unlike his competitors: « On vacation, I didn’t talk about F1 even once, I have nothing to announce about myself at the moment. Normally, I will still be in the paddock, but where, I don’t know. »

Away from the tracks, Charles Leclerc mentions a certain lack: “I missed F1. Unfortunately, in Bali (editor’s note, the Monegasque’s vacation spot) I tried to search but there were no karts. I could only look at photos from the first part of the season. Things start again tomorrow, it feels good.”

During the break, many announcements of contract signings were made, but for the Monegasque, nothing has been discussed yet. I signed for one year, so my contract ends at the end of the year. I have not yet discussed with anyone regarding next season.

In the transfer game, he has several choices. Continuing with Sauber-Alfa Romeo or moving to Haas, that is the question: « Today the choice is difficult. Haas has improved and remains ahead, but I think Sauber also still has a good room for improvement. There was a good leap forward this year, and I think it will be even greater next season. »

The Ferrari question remains on everyone’s lips regarding the young driver’s future, who feels no pressure: There are uncertainties, I’ve never driven for a top team but in terms of pressure I think I am ready. I handle pressure better than in the past so it wouldn’t be a problem. It’s an option but it won’t change anything if I do another year with Sauber.
