Stoffel Vandoorne knows what he will do in 2019!
Dropped by McLaren in favor of young Lando Norris, Stoffel Vandoorne took the time to reflect before announcing his motorsport program for the 2019 season.
On the sidelines of the Russian Grand Prix, Stoffel Vandoorne chose his compatriots from RTBF to announce his plans for the 2019 season.
Sidelined by McLaren, the Belgian driver will join the Mercedes fold and participate in the Formula E championship next year with the new HWA AG team: « HWA is the structure that has won numerous DTM titles with Mercedes. Mercedes, which will be personally involved the following year. Mercedes is no coincidence because it is a major manufacturer involved in Formula 1 and therefore, inevitably, our compatriot, through this channel, also remains connected to F1. With, we hope, significant tasks for the German team in F1, » noted our colleague Gaëtan Vigneron.
A Super Formula program in Japan is also mentioned by the Belgian journalist: « From the moment it’s not F1, I think being linked to a manufacturer like Mercedes is a good program. Especially since it should be accompanied by other elements in WEC and in Japan with Honda. »
These details reported by RTBF are still awaiting official confirmation from the driver and his entourage in the coming days. However, Vandoorne’s immediate future in Formula 1 seems well and truly blocked.
