Official: Sergio Pérez remains with Force India in 2019

The announcement is not really a surprise, but the confirmation was expected: Sergio Pérez will indeed be one of the two drivers for the Racing Point Force India team, which will likely change its name, for the 2019 season.

After the acquisition of the Force India team by Lawrence Stroll, it became clear that the new boss’s son, Lance Stroll, would be part of the project in the short to medium term.

For the moment, the Canadian driver has still not been confirmed within the team now known as Racing Point Force India. But the current holder, Sergio Pérez, will indeed be part of the adventure in 2019 as the team announced on the eve of the United States Grand Prix weekend: “I am happy that Sergio continues the journey with us in 2019,” said Otmar Szafnauer, the team’s Sporting Director, before continuing: “For five years, Sergio has proven to be one of the most talented and consistent drivers on the grid.”

Sergio Pérez, although courted by other teams, never really wanted to look elsewhere: « I am happy to finally announce my future and I am very motivated for 2019. Force India has been my home since 2014 and it has allowed me to grow and demonstrate my skills on the track. We have had successes in five years, but I am sure the best is yet to come. »

The second seat should normally go back to Lance Stroll, barring a huge surprise from the Canadian, and the announcement should therefore not take long to be made.
